Redlin is delighted to announce that on September 25th 2009, we gained ISO14001 certification, the internationally recognised standard for environmental management systems.
Over the last few years, more and more customers have been taking an interest in how their print affects the environment. In addition, an environmental management system is often a prerequisite in competing for any print contracts. Redlin recognised the shift in customer requirements and felt the best way to demonstrate its commitment to the environment was by gaining the ISO14001 certification.
To gain 14001 is no mean feat. The process, led by Philip Reed, Redlin’s Systems Manager, took just under ten months and started with a review of where the business impacted the environment. An environmental policy and a set of objectives were drawn up against this and procedures and policies were then brought in to enable the business to continually improve its environmental performance.
Steve Lawrence, Redlin’s Sales Director says “When you use Redlin to produce your print, you can be confident that environmental issues are taken seriously and that the business is committed to continually reducing the negative effect it has on the environment. ISO14001 also backs up Redlin’s FSC certification, which gives customers the choice to select a paper that is sourced from well managed forests.”
Philip Reed, Redlin’s Systems Manager says: “ISO14001 has already had a significant impact on Redlin. Our waste segregation and recycling procedures have greatly reduced the amount we send to landfill by a massive 70% and we feel confident that we can reduce this figure even further. Another area that has been affected is procurement. To give you an example, when we recently reviewed plate purchasing, the criteria included the impact on chemistry, energy and water consumption in addition to cost and the ability to meet operational needs.”
